The Catoctin Land Trust is a nonprofit organization working in Frederick and Washington counties to preserve and restore the woods and waters that sustain wildlife, our environment, and people. Along with our partners, we have help protect over 2,200 acres so far! Our priority landscapes are the Appalachian Trail & South Mountain, Catoctin Mountain, Elk Ridge, and the Monocacy River and Antietam and Catoctin creek watersheds — tributaries of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

The Chessie Nature Trail runs along the Maury River from the city of Buena Vista through Rockbridge County to Lexington. It follows the path of the former C&O railroad, which was washed out in 1969 by Hurricane Camille.
