The GRTA was established in 2021. The GRTA’s service area is the former North Coast Railroad Authority (NCRA) rail corridor in Mendocino, Trinity, and Humboldt Counties. The rail corridor in Sonoma and Marin Counties was transferred to Sonoma – Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART).
The Great Redwood Trail is a 320-mile, world-class, multi-use rail-to-trail project connecting California’s San Francisco and Humboldt Bays. The legacy trail will travel through some of the wildest and most scenic landscapes in the United States, traversing old growth redwood forests, running alongside oak woodlands and vineyards, and winding through the magnificent Eel River Canyon.

Abonmarche was founded on the principle of improving the places we live by building longevity into each project. Our region surrounding the Great Lakes has experienced environmental challenges over the last 40 years that have revealed vulnerabilities. Our goal is to create resilience against those challenges – so that future generations will inherit a built world that will last through their lifetime and beyond. Through data-driven insights and the combined experiences of our staff, we’ve been a part of shaping some of our region’s most notable coastal, waterfront, and adjacent landscapes.
