All worksites will use an eight-person paid trail crew working with experienced Carolina Mountain Club (CMC) volunteer crew members. Work will begin Fall 2024.
Worksite 1, Douglas Falls Trail: tread and drainage maintenance. Repairs: adding steps, installing grade dips, removing roots, widening tread. Three water crossings need armored fords.
Worksite 2, (Appalachian National Scenic Trail (ANST) Little Laurel Shelter overnight site: site drainage maintenance. Repairs: adding steps, water diversions, cribbing/filling cupped areas, removing roots/rocks, widening trail. Bear resistant food storage box will be installed.
Worksite 3, ANST Big Firescald Knob to Round Knob: tread and drainage maintenance. Repairs: adding rock and steps, installing grade dips, filling entrenched tread, removing roots/rocks, widening trail.
Worksite 4, ANST Little Bald to High Rocks: tread and drainage maintenance. Repairs: adding rock and steps, installing grade dips, filling entrenched tread, removing roots/rocks, widening the trail to meet Forest Service standards.
