Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation (SBFC) and Idaho Trails Association (ITA) will work together to restore tread and improve stream fords severely damaged after the 2021 Boundary Fire burned at high intensity, followed by several years of intense localized precipitation events.
These storms produced high runoff in burned drainages, flooding the trail and washing away the tread in numerous locations. SBFC and ITA will repair this badly damaged Marquee Trail in Central Idaho, restoring access and tread drainage patterns to reduce erosion and sediment delivery. Threatened, endangered, and special status species (TES) positively impacted are (threatened Chinook Salmon, threatened Bull Trout, threatened Steelhead, and Endangered Sockeye Salmon). Work includes four 8-day hitches, utilizing professional trail leaders, interns, and volunteers. Planning will begin in the winter/spring of 2024. The first hitch will occur in early June 2024. SCNF Wilderness Program Manager Nick Shade estimates it will take four hitches with large crews to repair the trail.
