Wildlands Restoration Volunteers (WRV) is working with the South Park Ranger District and local partners to construct a 4.5-mile singletrack connector trail between the smaller Pike-San Isabel National Forest trail system North of Fairplay and the expansive Summit County System across Boreas Pass on the White River National Forest.
It will replace 2.5 miles of recently closed unsustainable roads and enable the restoration of a 1.5-mile fall-line trail along Crooked Creek. We will be constructing the reroute during the 2024 and 2025 seasons and working on final design and permitting for an additional mile of trail that will replace the fall-line sections to be closed and restored by 2026. The most accessible sections will be constructed by a partner organization with a trail dozer supported by Youth Corps crews. The most remote by a professional crew with equipment. The talus sections and least accessible middle will be constructed by volunteers from WRV and partnering organizations.
