The 3,670 acre Mount Emily Recreation Area (MERA) was purchased by Union County in 2008 with Oregon State ATV funds after a successful grassroots drive to keep the formerly private timberland from being subdivided into 240 acre parcels.

The Neahkahnie Mountain to Manzanita Trail Project added a new segment to the Oregon Coast Trail (OCT), one that had previously not existed. The OCT covers some 360 miles from the Washington to the California borders, much of it hiked along Oregon’s public beaches.

A dilapidated bridge on the North Fork Middle Fork Trail near Oakridge, Oregon. As of 2020 large portions of the 9 mile trail are impassible due to erosion, fallen trees and bridges in need of repair or replacement.
