The Appalachian Trail Conservancy analyzed trends and obstacles in volunteerism and crafted a multi-pronged approach to address opportunities to make volunteering open to all and easy to do. Learn about the strategies and tools the Conservancy developed to enhance volunteer recruitment and engage more new volunteers.

    Leanna Joyner is the Appalachian Trail Conservancy's Senior Director for Partnerships and Trail Operations. In this role, she collaborates with 30 partner organizations in 14 states to mobilize more than 4,700 volunteers annually. A hiker, gardener, and dancer, Leanna lives in Asheville, N.C.
