Our mission is to promote cultural tourism by education, preservation and conservation of the heritage & culture within the six northwest Alabama counties — Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone & Morgan — of the Tennessee River basin. We inform, educate, develop & interpret visitor-ready sites, support local programs that help tell our story & chronicle the evolution of the area’s landscape. The Myeerah Nature Preserve is 450 acres and is maintained by the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District. Myeerah is open from dawn to dusk for patrons to explore. This area offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, shelter house rentals, weddings, etc.
