Door County Land Trust

The Door County Land Trust is a local, non-profit 501(c)3 organization working to protect Door County’s exceptional lands and waters forever. The Land Trust has protected more than 8,000 acres thanks to contributions of support from members. Door County Land Trust nature preserves are open to the public at no charge for hiking, cross-country skiing, wildlife observation, some forms of hunting, and other low-impact, non-motorized recreational activities.

Doty Bridge Replacement

The Doty Trestle Bridge replacement was a project in the making for more than 20 years and was finally completed in March of this year. The original structure was condemned in late 1999 and the trail corridor ordered closed for all uses. Alternate routes were explored and none found due primarily to opposition by environmental groups concerned about eagle nesting and other wildlife habitat.

Douglas Land Conservancy

Douglas Land Conservancy, or DLC, was formed in 1987 through a citizen initiative in response to alarming regional growth rates that far outpaced the rest of the country. DLC works in partnership with land owners, local governments, other conservation organizations and citizens to evaluate, accept and monitor conservation easements. These easements protect large tracts of open space from development for perpetuity. DLC has permanently preserved over 22,500 acres of open space in Douglas, Elbert and Jefferson County.
