We are excited to announce the projects we selected for funding for the 2024 Legacy Trail Program grant cycle. In this second year of the program, we funded a total of $1.35 million to 27 organizations.
We are grateful to have received 57 excellent project applications for the Legacy Trails Program, requesting $3.5 million dollars, approximately two times as much funding as we are able to award.
In the second year, it was again very competitive award round and our oversight committee had to make some difficult decisions. We appreciate the interest in the funding from everyone who applied and understand the time commitment required by the application process.
In two years the Legacy Trails Program has funded 65 Projects. We are excited to be able to support such excellent projects across the country, which will have a positive impact on watershed health, public access to the outdoors, and overall trail resiliency. This grant program is administered by American Trails and funded through a cost-share agreement with the United States Forest Service to support trails projects on forests and grasslands managed by the USFS through 2027.
