Karen Lorf currently serves as the State Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Her responsibilities focus on oversight of the Active Transportation Program which includes the Empire State Trail and State Bicycle Route programs, development of the Active Transportation Strategic Plan, and representing NYSDOT on various active transportation-related committees at the state and national level.
Ms. Lorf has significant expertise as a landscape architect in both public and private sector design settings. She began her career in 1993 and since that time, has led the development of projects focused on transportation, site design, and recreation facilities. Since coming to the NYSDOT Main Office in 2006, she has worked in the Design Services Bureau and the Highway Safety & Traffic Operations Bureau.
