Jim Allen has been involved with natural resources and outdoor recreation most of his life. Jim attended Colorado State University graduating with a BS in Forest Management Science. He worked his entire career with the US Forest Service primarily in the Rocky Mountain Region and retired from the Black Hills National Forest in 2010 after 33 years with the Forest Service. Jim’s involvement with trails and dispersed recreation increased in 2010 when he became a charter member of the Black Hills Back Country Horsemen of South Dakota. Since that time, he has served as the public lands liaison for the state chapter working with various land management agencies on assorted trail maintenance and land use issues. Since 2013 he has served on the national board of directors of Back Country Horsemen of America and has been the Co-chairman of the National Public Lands Committee for BCHA since 2014. In 2021 Jim was elected to the Executive Committee of BCHA. Jim currently resides outside of Custer, South Dakota with his wife, their two dogs, and their five mules.
