Courtney Lyons-Garcia joined the Partnership for the National Trails System in October 2023. In addition to administrative leadership, she is responsible for fundraising, advocacy, marketing and public relations for the organization, as well as board and membership development. She also teaches classes in Mass Communications for Texas State University as an Adjunct Professor.

Courtney holds master’s degrees in both media/public affairs and sustainable tourism from George Washington University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University as well.

Courtney began her non-profit career at The American Red Cross of Central Texas in Austin. In 2000, she moved to Washington DC, earning both of her masters degrees while working in the Development Department at The George Washington University. She completed her master’s degree internship as an editorial assistant at National Geographic Traveler before joining the National Parks Conservation Association. After moving home to Texas, Courtney served as the Development Director at the San Antonio Botanical Society, Development Director for the Mid-Texas Symphony, serving Seguin and New Braunfels and spent more than 13 years as Executive Director of Big Bend Conservancy.

A Corpus Christi native, Courtney is married to Mark Garcia and has a nineteen year old son Bryce who is a sophomore at Middle Tennessee State University and a sixteen year old daughter Sydney who is a sophomore in high school. She resides in New Braunfels, Texas, and is active with Great Springs Project, serves on the board for the Comal Trails Alliance and is a Grade Level Advisor for National Charity League. She also serves on the city’s Parks Advisory Board, and previously served on the Community Development Advisory Board, the Building Standards Commission, the 2023 Bond Committee, Historic Landmark Commission and chaired the Main Street Advisory Board for two years. She also served on the New Braunfels ISD’s District Educational Improvement Committee and on the 2021 NBISD Bond Committee.
