Georgia Safe Routes to School

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) enables and encourages families to walk and roll to and from school when and where it is safe. Where it’s not safe, we work with schools and communities to make it safer so that families may choose active transportation options. Georgia’s SRTS Resource Center assists schools and communities with education, encouragement, engagement, evaluation, planning and other related SRTS strategies to improve conditions, equitable access, behaviors, and attitudes about biking, rolling, and walking. And our School Road Safety Audit and assessment programs support making the infrastructure around schools and along school walk/roll routes safer. SRTS programs encourage physical activity, improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion and emissions around schools, address traffic safety concerns, and engage communities.
