We believe that having access to nature in the inner city in the form of street trees, parks, greenways, and open space increases the physical, spiritual, and mental health of both residents and businesses, that people want healthy environments that include not only cultural diversity, but also biological diversity like plants, birds, and fish, and that returning nature to our inner cities strengthens urban communities and conserves municipal resources by making urban environments more healthy, desirable places to live and work.

In private developments, trails provide added value, giving residents a recreational opportunity for people of all ages and inclinations.
On public lands, trails are a resource management tool. By providing access in a system designed to guide people away from sensitive habitat and cultural or historic sites, trails help control access. Poorly designed and planned trail systems and systems that do not meet user needs, on the other hand, can lead to the proliferation of “social,” or user created trails, which can lead to resource damage.

The SportsAbility Alliance (formerly the Florida Disabled Outdoors Association) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is working to enrich lives through accessible inclusive recreation. Since its inception in 1990, the FDOA has promoted accessible recreation to persons with disabilities as well as the general public through its hands-on recreation programs, newsletters and community outreach and education.
