Panel discussions at MATAG 2020 Virtual:

  • In Times of Crisis, Keeping Trail Policy Relevant with Elected Officials. Nobody will deny that 2020 has been a year of crises, from the COVID 19 pandemic where trails have seen record use due to the stay-at-home orders to the Black Lives Matters movement which, among its many important objectives, reveals a lack of equity and feeling of safety on trails within our citizens of color. This moderated panel of high-level elected officials will discuss state trail caucuses, crisis response, and economic recovery.
  • Managing Trails through Times of Crisis. While developing our trails depends on good policy, most of us work and respond at the local level. This moderated panel of park and trail managers will explore the evolving understanding of the importance of trails in our communities. Discussion will include what management techniques worked and didn’t work during the pandemic response. Further exploration will also include looking at how to create and manage welcoming spaces for all members of our communities.

While we may individually agree (or disagree) in whole or in part with any or all of the participants, the views expressed in these webinars are not necessarily representative of the views of American Trails as an organization or its board and staff.
