American Trails is pleased to partner with the U.S. Forest Service in announcing the Legacy Trails Grant Program. This program is funded up to $1.5M per year for 5 years through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and supports partner trail projects that further the Legacy Roads and Trails criteria on National Forest System trails throughout the nine Forest Service Regions. This webinar will outline this new and exciting trails funding opportunity. Funding is open to nonprofit organizations, businesses, and local agencies supporting trails on U.S. Forest Service lands. This webinar is intended to help members of the trail community to understand if this funding program is right for their needs and will allow plenty of time for attendee questions.
Please note that the application for this funding will be available in late September/early October. Please be sure you are on our mailing list to be notified as soon as more details are available.
This webinar qualifies as a Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) course (via LA CES).

Andy Welsh, Assistant National Trail Program Manager, USDA Forest Service

Andy is on a temporary assignment to the USFS Washington Office as the Assistant National Trail Program Manager. Andy normally serves as a Deputy District Ranger for the Stanislaus National Forest in California on the Mi-Wok/Summit Ranger District. He previously held recreation positions with the BLM and USFS working as a crew lead, IDT lead, project planner, and project manager on trail and wilderness projects in Colorado, New Hampshire, and Alaska. Andy has a B.S. in Outdoor Education from the University of New Hampshire and a Graduate Certificate in Geospatial Information Systems from Penn State.
Randy Welsh, Executive Director, National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance
Bend, Oregon
Randy Welsh is the Executive Director of the National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance (NWSA). He is recently retired from the US Forest Service after a 36 year career, having served in protected area management with emphasis on wilderness and rivers. Randy spent time in Washington DC as the National Program Leader for Wild and Scenic Rivers and as Assistant Director of Recreation, Heritage and Volunteer Resources. He was a Regional Wilderness Specialist in the Intermountain Region working on wilderness and rivers issues for over 16 years before moving to Washington. Married, with two grown daughters, Randy recently moved to Bend, Oregon, and enjoys river trips, wilderness hikes, and visits with friends and family.
Danielle Fowles-McNiven, Assistant Director, Tread Lightly!, Inc.

Experienced education and training manager with demonstrated success in managing a federal grant in the outdoor recreation industry focusing on environmental ethics education and stewardship projects. Skilled in budget development, grassroots organizing, public speaking and project management. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Graduated from University of Utah. Randy Rasmussen, Director of Public Lands and Recreation, Back Country Horsemen of America

Since 2012, Randy has represented Back Country Horsemen of America—a widely respected national, non-profit volunteer service organization, www.bcha.org. He assists BCHA’s 32 state organizations to advance policy initiatives and strengthen partnerships to ensure that current and future generations will continue to enjoy access to back country and Wilderness experiences. Prior to joining BCHA, Randy was senior policy manager for the American Hiking Society and worked for other national, non-profit organizations. He was a founding board member of Trailkeepers of Oregon, a volunteer trail maintenance organization. Randy earned a Masters of Science degree in Natural Resources, Recreation & Tourism at Colorado State University with an emphasis in public lands and wilderness management.
Aaron Clark, Policy Manager, International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA)
Aaron is a gearhead by birth and dropper-post lovin' weight-weenie by choice. Having discovered a lifelong love for all things bikes back in Detroit in the early 90's (aboard his fully rigid, budget-minded Nishiki Crossroads, no less) he began racing his bike all over the Michigan woods. This eventually led Aaron to Colorado and eventually to IMBA in 2012 where he works on backcountry mountain bike trail access, policy and legislation as part of the Government Relations team. In his little spare time, Aaron coaches cyclocross at a local high school. His best rides are with his wife and two boys who, after careful crafting, now share his love for riding.
