Basic Rockwork for Trails

Rock and stone work skills for trailbuilding are introduced in this training session. As these are smaller classes, they fill up quickly.

Description

Benchmark Trails, Inc., from Greenville, SC, will be instructing the class.  Students will learn how to move rock efficiently and use various methods to build stone steps.  The class will construct stone steps on the RCC campus trail system.  Small class size and focused fieldwork will allow participants to receive guided instruction in the field.  Individuals should have prior experience with basic trail skills.  Participants must dress appropriately for trail work – hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, long pants, and boots preferred. Cost: $350

Certificates and CEUs will be awarded to all participants. You can register online under the RCC Continuing Education/Online Registration tabs on our website (search for the key words "trail" for that series of classes or "outdoor" for others). Once the course title comes up, be sure to click the box beside it in the "Select" column then click "Submit." Once online registration is completed, a registration confirmation should come up on the screen. If not, call us at 336-342-4261 ext. 2107 to confirm you are registered.

A couple of local hotels, Hampton Inn, Eden and Holiday Inn and Suites, Reidsville, are offering a special rate ($84 + tax) for TRAILS program students. You will need to call the hotel directly, and tell them you are with the Rockingham Community College TRAILS program. Please let me know if you have any trouble getting this rate. Cabins and tent camping are available at Camp GuilRock. For additional information, please contact the Camp Director () at 336-342-1951. Camping is also available at Lake Reidsville. Reservations can be made by calling 336-349-4738.
