Patrick Shea Selected as New BLM Director
Patrick A. Shea of Utah is the new Director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Shea, 49, is a prominent Utah lawyer, educator, and businessman, as well as Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the Brigham Young University Law School. He also is president of the City Creek Canyon Park, a natural history park in downtown Salt Lake City.
A native of Salt Lake City, Shea earned a law degree from Harvard University, was a Rhodes Scholar, and received a master's degree from Oxford University. Mr. Shea will become the 15th Director of the 51-year-old Bureau of Land Management, with policy and administrative responsibility for 265 million acres of surface land and over 570 million acres of mineral estate, with an annual budget of more than $1 billion, and a work force of about 9,000 employees.
Eric Smith is new AZ Trails Coordinator
Eric Smith is the new State Trails Coordinator for Arizona State Parks. Eric fills the position Pam Gluck, American Trails' new Executive Director, held for 4-1/2 years. Eric has also worked as State Trails Planner, as Steward for the Arizona Trail, as a volunteer for the U.S. Forest Service, and has also worked for the National Park Service. With an education in Recreation Resource Management and Planning, Eric brings years of trails experience and a wealth of knowledge to the position.
