American Trails is embarking on a new chapter in our growth as an organization, and we are excited for Cathy to help lead this effort. Her deep background as an environmental designer, educator, and artist is directly relevant to her strategic communications role, and the launch and expansion of The Trail Fund grant program this year.

For the past four years, Cathy served on the American Trails board while running her own independent consulting business. As a licensed landscape architect, her background includes site analysis services, community engagement consulting, and trail system master planning. She has over 20 years of professional experience in site-scale design for projects including stormwater, native plants, and edible garden features for commercial, residential, and public environments.

Throughout her career, Cathy has been committed to finding opportunities to engage stakeholders and include community members in the project planning and design process. Her goal is always to ensure that a project is responsive to the natural and cultural history of a given site. She has collaborated with planners, architects, civil engineers, scientists, and artists in projects in California, Oregon, and Colorado.

Cathy holds an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University and a master’s in landscape architecture from the University of Oregon. She grew up skiing in the Colorado Rockies and spends her spare time creating art, gardening, hiking, skiing and botanizing.
