Of people who, decades ago, before there were positions like state trails coordinator, or books like Wild, espousing the healing power of trails, stood up and said to everyone who would listen, we need to realize the value of trails. Men and women who embodied the quote from French poet Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, “If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”
