The 3,670 acre Mount Emily Recreation Area (MERA) was purchased by Union County in 2008 with Oregon State ATV funds after a successful grassroots drive to keep the formerly private timberland from being subdivided into 240 acre parcels.

The project connects the 89-mile Nicolet State Trail in Wisconsin to the 107-mile State Line Trail in Michigan. Trails are open to snowmobiling, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, all-terrain vehicles, and off-highway motorcycles.
Construction involved professional trail contractors, youth service crews, and community volunteer groups. The three-mile trail is a segment of the 20-mile Upper Hickory Nut Gorge Trail that will circumnavigate the community of Gerton.

Preservation of an 1800's trail.
The Johnson Camp trail project improved the public's access into this portion of the Park.
The project created sustainable, designated trails and trailheads in the WMA.
Decks were replaced on 12 rail-trail bridges to keep over 100 miles of trail open.
The smooth multi-use paved path was funded with the Department of Environmental Protection RTP funds, with a match from the City of Palm Bay.
New bridge makes for a safe and environmentally sound crossing.
