Duke Energy TRAILS at Rockingham Community College

Duke Energy TRAILS and Environmental Planning and Development (EPD) Program at RCC is the first community college program of its kind in the United States. The program benefit students who want to enter or are currently employed in outdoor recreation. The Duke Energy TRAILS and EPD program spans the fields of environmental planning, outdoor economy and development, and trails and outdoor recreation infrastructure development and management. Our program is partnership driven across land managers, partner groups and private industry designed to meet the ongoing needs for education, skills training, workforce and career development. The Duke Energy TRAILS continuing education program centers around hands-on workshops building technical trail skills and improving capacity around outdoor recreation infrastructure development and management. The Duke Energy Environmental Planning and Development (EPD) associate degree program (Associates in Applied Science) opens the door to expertise in outdoor recreation. In addition to a traditional classroom setting, EPD includes hands-on skills learning as well as work-based learning and includes three areas of study: Environmental Planning, Outdoor Economy and Recreation, and Trails and Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure. EPD graduates will have 2+2 articulation opportunities to continue their studies at partner schools towards a four-year degree.
