Youth Corps Team Leader

Time Commitment: Seasonal - 9 to 10 weeks, starting May 29th - August 2nd.


Job Responsibilites

  • Training youth in the skills necessary to accomplish assigned projects;
  • Planning and leading team meetings and group activities designed to encourage job skill and life skill development such as teamwork, conflict resolution, communication, goal setting, decision making, community service, and environmental education;
  • Training youth in worksite safety issues and responding with CPR/First Aid in the event of emergencies;
  • Working cooperatively with other county and city personnel to develop and monitor work plans and projects for youth participants;
  • Maintaining a variety of records, reports, evaluations, and inventories; and performing related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • A high school diploma, or equivalent, and a combination of at least two years of college coursework and/or two years of field experience


EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one full summer (3 months) of experience supervising or teaching a comparable size group of middle and/or high school aged youth

DRIVER'S LICENSE:

  • Applicants must have a valid Colorado (or state of residency) Driver's License and a good driving record. Applicants offered a position will have their Colorado motor vehicle record run by Risk Management.
  • For applicants that hold an out of state driver's license, the motor vehicle record must be dated within 14 days of the interview.
  • If the issuance date of the Colorado Driver's License is within twelve months, applicant will also be required to provide a current (no older than 14 days) motor vehicle record from the previous state of residency.


LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION:New applicants must provide two written letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation can be attached in the online application; faxed to 303-678-6180, Attn. Judy Wolfe; or mailed to Boulder County Youth Corps, 5201 St. Vrain Rd, Longmont, CO 80503. Or you can ask your reference person to complete a form at www.bouldercounty.org/youthcorps under the 'Reference Letters' tab. Three references with current contact information (including email) will be accepted in lieu of two written letters.

Please include these references in your online application and note that we do not accept references from family members unless they have served as your employer. If you have worked for the Youth Corps before you only need to submit one written letter of recommendation or two references from people not affiliated with the Youth Corps. If you are applying for the same position as you held last summer, you do not need to submit either.


BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION:

  • A job offer is contingent on passing a criminal background investigation.


AGE REQUIREMENT:

  • Team Leaders must be at least 21 years of age as of June 10, 2019.

Desired Qualifications

  • Parks, open space, trails or landscaping experience preferred. Basic knowledge of adolescent behavior and group dynamics.
  • Skill in group facilitation and developing a rapport with adolescents.
  • Ability to lead a team and supervise adolescents in achieving site-specific job objectives.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently lifts up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet; occasionally lifts up to 30 lbs. from floor to knuckle; frequently lifts up to 20 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100 lbs.; occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.; frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to the floor. Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes. Occasionally climbs a ladder; must be able to stand and balance on a ladder; occasionally walks over uneven terrain.
