Volunteer Opportunities at the Symposium:


Exhibit Hall Set-Up/Breakdown

Lift and move boxes and help set-up exhibits for the Symposium. Work with the exhibit hall coordinator and/or American Trails representative in moving materials to create displays. At the end of the Symposium, help take the exhibit apart and clean up. Assist exhibitors if they need help.

Bag Stuffer

Package symposium materials for attendees.

Registration Assistant

Requires a detail oriented person. Manage check-in activities, provide direction, assistance, and information about the Symposium, Syracuse area, and local trails system to attendees. Welcome attendees to Syracuse and help hand out registration materials. Will assist with merchandise sales and may handle cash, check, and credit card transactions.

Floaters

Volunteers will not be assigned to a particular area, but will step in as needed (i.e. if a volunteer role is vacant during a shift). They will assist with miscellaneous tasks that American Trails staff need help with.

Auctions

Set-up: Assist in arranging auction packages, organizing paperwork for each item, and displaying them on auction tables.
During and breakdown: The role requires a detail oriented person and money handling. Volunteers will watch over auction items and help the assist in processing paperwork and cash, check, and credit card transactions.

Room Hosts

Requires a detail oriented person. Distribute, collect, and organize multiple forms (including learning credits and session evaluations). Ensure that session presenters AV needs are met and necessary materials are available. Straighten out room before and after sessions.

AV Helper

Requires knowledge of computer systems, connections to projectors/speakers, and PowerPoint. Volunteers will assist presenters if problems with AV equipment arise. They will troubleshoot problems and make needed equipment repairs as quickly as possible.

TRAILx Session Emcees

Volunteers will introduce presenters as they come on stage and ensure presenters know what to do/where to go. Need someone that isn’t afraid to be on the mic and can keep the attendees interested in between presenters.

Ticket Takers

Volunteers will collect tickets (and keep track of them) for meal functions (Trail Talk Breakfasts, Keynote Luncheons, and Tuesday buffet). Volunteer will monitor who is entering and exiting the room. They will also help out American Trails staff with other items that need attending during these events.

Trails Rock Party

Volunteers will be offsite (Museum of Science and Technology) assisting with set up, clean up, collecting meal tickets, as well as assisting with the live auction (set-up and manning auction table and cash box). They will assist with clearing food plates as well as cleaning tables.

Auctioneer

Enthusiast volunteer to assist with auctioning off a handful of items at the Trails Rock Party. Looking for someone to get the crowd excited and who isn’t afraid to be on a mic and to get the crowd’s attention.

Mobile Workshops

Volunteers will check people in, get liability waivers signed, and help get buses ready.

Emerging Leaders

Volunteers will assist with airport pickups of Emerging Leaders scholarship recipients, welcoming them to the area (some of which will be international). For scholarship recipients arriving earlier (Friday or Saturday morning), volunteers needed to be a tour guide.

Symposium Breakdown

Assist with organizing leftover materials and packing boxes to ship back to American Trails office.

PLEASE NOTE: Some positions only require volunteers for certain days and hours, if your hours of availability do not match these positions you will not be assigned to them. Most positions will last four or more hours.
