Trail Crew Members (California State Parks)

Location: Mt. Tamalpais State Park, Mill Valley, CA
Time Commitment: Seasonal Positions available beginning in May serving a 9 month season


This position will work on the Bay Area District Trail Crew and report to the Park Maintenance Chief I. The selected candidates will assist the District’s Trail Crew in trail maintenance, trail improvements, bridge construction, and other projects as assigned. The candidates will have the opportunity to work independently, with CCC crews, and with NPS crews based on project needs and location.

Job Responsibilites

Work schedule will be project dependent and consist of Monday-Thursday, 0700-1730 (4 on, 3 off) or Wednesday-Wednesday 0700-1730 schedule (8 on, 6 off).

The worksite is entirely outdoors and will require the candidate to work in variable weather conditions to include cold, heat, rain and wind.

Spike camping will be required on certain projects.

Past trail work and spike camp experience is desired but not required. A willingness to learn, flexibility, and adaptability are significant characteristics desired in applicants.

Required Qualifications

This position will involve the use of various hand and power tools for the construction of trail related features. This position requires the ability to work with people of varying ages and backgrounds. Working conditions and tasks will require extensive physical labor including, but not limited to: heavy lifting (50+ lbs), use of power tools to cut lumber and construct bridges, chainsaw use, crosscut use, rock shaping/lifting, and the use of wheel barrows to transport tools and materials over rough un-even terrain in variable weather conditions. A valid California driver’s license is required

Desired Qualifications

Past trail work and spike camp experience is desired but not required. A willingness to learn, flexibility, and adaptability are significant characteristics desired in applicants.

Salary and Benefits

$13.17 - $14.83 per hour
