Operations Director

Time Commitment: Full-time

The Operations Director will work in collaboration with the Executive Director to promote marketing and fundraising efforts for BMWF. The Operations Director will plan fundraising and outreach events, drive marketing campaigns, manage the donor database, work with financial reporting systems and assist with grant writing.

Job Responsibilites

Key Job Functions

Marketing and Outreach

  • Create and design print and digital media content to recruit volunteers and donors
  • Update BMWF social media
  • Update and maintain website
  • Manage online store and merchandise sales
  • Facilitate newsletter, postcard and poster printing
  • Draft and distribute donor communication elements
  • Manage the Artist Wilderness Connection program

Event Planning

  • Plan and execute Mountain Film on Tour events
  • Plan and execute Voices of the Wilderness
  • Work with partners on the Wilderness Speakers Series
  • Coordinate other outreach and fundraising events like Great Fish and local Farmer’s Markets


  • Manage Giftworks donor database
  • Fundraising
  • Plan Endowment raft/pack trip
  • Assist with corporate sponsorships


  • With the Executive Director, facilitate financial management and reporting (including payroll) using GAAP


Some travel and weekend availability is required; use of your personal vehicle will be necessary with mileage reimbursement at the BMWF annual rate.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications may be met by any combination of education and experience that provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed in the job description. Typically, the Operations Director will have graduated from an accredited college with a major in wilderness management, recreation, natural resource management, outdoor education or closely-related field and have two years of working experience.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal Operations Director candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with programs related or similar to Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation’s mission, vision, goals and objectives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fundraising and event planning experience
  • Social media marketing, email campaigns, grant writing, database management
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Squarespace, social media platforms, QuickBooks and Mail Chimp

Additional experience that would be desirable for this position:

  • Experience in volunteer recruitment
  • Knowledge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, its trail system and management
  • Knowledge of Giftworks software
  • Working knowledge of website maintenance and graphic design

Salary and Benefits

Salary is assigned based on experience with a range of $39,000 - $49,000. Annual pay raises are based on merit. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave and holidays, monthly health insurance reimbursement, participation in BMWF’s Simple IRA Plan.
