2021 Black Hills National Forest Corps Team

Time Commitment: June 21, 2021 to September 12, 2021
The 2021 Black Hills National Forest Corps Team will work with the Student Conservation Association and the U.S. Forest Service on priority trail projects in Black Hills National Forest. This team, composed of three crew members and one crew leader, will serve for 12 weeks. The crew members and leader will receive training before starting work, which includes SCA member training and trail work skills training.
Once on the forest, this team will focus their work on priority bridge and trail projects as outlined by USFS staff. Forest Service staff will provide meaningful projects and on-site logistical support. Team projects may include: Building turnpikes, rock armoring, erosion control, and trail maintenance.
The team will stay in developed and wilderness campsites. SCA will provide all necessary support services, crew leadership, transportation, personal safety equipment, and other standard materials/supplies necessary to perform the work.
Team will start season with one 8-day work hitch in the wilderness, followed by 6 days off. Team’s regular schedule will then be to work four days in a row (Wednesdays - Saturdays), 10-hour days.
Team Member Benefits: $165/week salary. One-time travel allowance ($650). Housing (camping at USFS campground) and field-based meals. SCA member orientation, Wilderness Medical Essentials and trail work skills trainings. Eligible for AmeriCorps Education Award. *All allowances subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
