American Trails is especially interested in projects that address topics like accessible trails, safety and sharing on multiple-use routes, and solving trail design problems. We also like to see how trails are used for education, health and fitness, urban revitalization, and access to waterways. The goal is to show how trails benefit communities, encourage family activity, contribute to the economy , and foster stewardship of our public lands.
American Trails Magazine readers are trail managers and advocates, so we are not looking for a travelogue as much as creative trail design, funding, management, and problem solving. Because American Trails rep resents all trail interests, we want to include motorized as well as nonmotorized activities, urban greenways as well as backcountry trails, and snow and water trails as well.
Word count: Articles can be any length and we'll edit to fit the space if we can use them in the magazine, and all articles will be made into web pages that can use longer text and more photos. The web articles are promoted in the eNews, on Facebook, and on the Symposium site.
Photos: We need several photos to choose from, clear with good lighting, and file size of at least 2 mb.
When submitting an article, it’s best to send us a brief description of what you would like to submit to give us an idea of what the article will be about – why it stands out, what our readers will learn, etc. And sending even a photo or two as teasers would be great. We like to be able to choose from a variety of photos to go along with an article, if we end up using it for a future issue.
Send submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. You may download a PDF of trail article needs and suggestions.
