Idaho's North Fork Boise River Trail
Youth crews reconstruct damaged areas.
The CRT recognizes the North Fork Boise River Trail project in Idaho City, Idaho for their use of youth corps workers. This project reconstructed several sections of trail that had been heavily damaged by wildfire and water runoff.
A Northwest Idaho Youth Corps crew participated in the project. This program offers youth (ages 14 and older) a challenging outdoor learning and earning experience that emphasizes education and personal growth.
For this project, they moved small rocks that had been produced when engineers blasted large boulders on the trail. They filled in talus and rocky sections to build new trail tread. They also constructed two porous rock retaining walls, helped clear over 100 downed trees from the trail, and installed two trailheads and 11 trail junction signs.
