New trails constructed on railroad corridor.
With RTP funding assistance, 10 miles of aggregate-surface trail were constructed on a former Illinois Central Railroad corridor in northwestern Illinois.
Twenty-one railroad bridges, comprising over 1,400 total linear feet, were renovated with timber decking and 42 inch railings. Two farm equipment/animal crossings were installed with multi-gate systems.
The trail has been developed due to the hard work of an energetic group of trail enthusiasts, including snowmobilers and bicyclists, many other environmentally-oriented individuals, and staff from several different government agencies.
