This special award is conferred at the will of the Chair of the board, in concurrence with fellow board members, to recognize notable achievements by an individual that changes the landscape of the trails industry.
Gary joined the Walton Family Foundation in 2015, supporting Steuart and Tom Walton full-time with cycling and trail building projects.
In 2003 Gary relocated to Northwest Arkansas from Springfield, Missouri as part of his 30-year career with Walmart. At Walmart he was a director in the Environmental Division working on recycling and sustainability programs. Gary is a lifelong cycling enthusiast. Gary joined the Walton Family Foundation in 2015, supporting Steuart and Tom Walton full-time with cycling and trail building projects. He was the president of the International Mountain Bike Association’s Arkansas Chapter Friends of Arkansas Single Track (FAST) for seven years. As a volunteer, Gary has worked with Steuart and Tom Walton on trail projects since 2007. Gary has been married to Aimee Vernon for 21 years and has two children, Abby (17 ) and Grayson (12). Gary’s hobbies include mountain biking, motocross, and motorcycle trials and climbing.
