Hearings to be held nationwide during February on transportation issues

The U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee kicks off a series of nationwide Congressional hearings and public forums during February 2011 on pending major surface transportation legislation. Chairman John L. Mica (R-FL) announced the series of cross-country Committee meetings with state and local officials and transportation stakeholders.

The goal is to inform the Committee’s drafting of a long-term reauthorization of the nation’s highway, transit, and highway safety programs. The Committee will seek input on how to "consolidate and improve the performance of programs, cut government red tape and streamline the project delivery process, increase private sector investment in our infrastructure, identify creative financing alternatives, and other ideas for writing the legislation." The previous multi-year law (SAFETEA- LU) expired in September 2009.
Many of these meeting locations are in districts of new Congressmen that serve on the Transportation Committee. Check with the Representatives offices on times and exact locations. Those marked with an asterisk are field hearings; the rest are structured more in the format of town hall-listening sessions.
