States receive $50 million for 2000 federal Recreational Trails Program

Funding has increased again for the year 2000 to $50 million and will remain at this level through 2003. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) provided $40 million in formula apportionments to the States through the Recreational Trails Program for FY 1999. This is more than double the funding received in 1996 and 97, and one-third more than the 1998 dollars. Some adjustments to the apportionments to the States was made for 2000 as a result of a recent recreational fuel use study done by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
