Dale Lloyd, advocate for trails and snowmobilers

Dale Harvey Lloyd was the husband of Kay Lloyd, who served as American Trails Chair for several years. Dale, like Kay, was an avid snowmobiler and advocate for trails of all kinds.

A much loved husband and partner of 49 years, loving father and grandfather, and friend to many passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at his home in Cle Elum due to congestive heart failure. Dale was born on May 29, 1938 in Everett, WA to Willis and Nola Lloyd. He graduated from High School in Phillipsburg, Missouri in 1956. On Nov. 7, 1958, he married Kathleen Price Lloyd in Seattle, WA.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Willis Lloyd; mother, Nola Lance Lloyd; and brothers Maynard Lloyd and Lyle Lloyd. Dale is survived by his wife, Kathleen Price Lloyd of Cle Elum, WA; daughters Wendy Lloyd and Jana Lottinville; grandson, Anthony Lottinville; granddaughter, Jennell Lottinville; and nephew, Gerald Lloyd— all of Washington State.

Dale was an adventurer at heart. He traveled in all but one of the 50 states, and enjoyed every back road he could find. He loved to snowmobile and rode in several states including Alaska, where in 1992 he rode the Iditarod Trail from Nome to Anchorage. Then in February of 2000, Dale rode from the Canadian Border to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Dale was a member of the Washington State Snowmobile Association and in the 1990's he and Curt Pearson started what is known today as the Snowmobile Expo in Puyallup, WA.

Dale was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, especially sitting by a campfire at night and sharing stories. He climbed all the major peaks in Washington except Mt. Adams, and spent several years rock climbing in the Leavenworth area. Dale worked as a carpenter for a few years; then started Azure Construction, which he ran for over 20 years building homes in King and Snohomish counties.

Dale's cremation was arranged by Cascade Funeral Home and a "Celebration of Dale's Life" will be held on April 5, 2008 at 1:00p.m. at the Centennial Center, 719 E. Third St. in Cle Elum, WA. Everyone is welcome to attend. Memorials can be made to the UKCSC Centennial Center Building Fund, P.O. Box 877, Cle Elum, WA 98922.
