Trails for America: Every Where, Every Way, Every Day! Mobile Workshop
Details IMBA/QUAD CITIES TRAIL SHOWCASE
Date: Saturday, October 21 The local Friends of Off Road Cycling (FORC) and the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) will showcase two in-town trails within 10-15 minutes of the convention center. Southwest Park has a 4-mile loop with hill and bluff top vistas of pastures, farmland, and forested ravines. Located on a small island in the Mississippi River, Sylvan Island is a 3-mile loop that traverses through the ruins of an early century steel mill. IMBA and FORC will offer techniques for working with land managers, sharing trails with other user groups, utilizing volunteer trail care crews, and trail planning and design. Opportunities for intermediate to semi-skilled riders are available. Some experience is required, with fair to good bike-handling skills and good general health and conditioning. A liability waiver and a helmet are required. Weather may require moving to another location, modifying, or canceling a ride. There may not be bathrooms at either of these parks, so please be prepared. Group size will be limited to 25 riders, which divide into smaller groups by comfort level and ability. Mountain bike rentals are very limited. It would be best if you were able to bring your own mountain bike. Please indicate on your registration form whether you need a bike rental and your riding ability.
