The Waller Creek Trail: three miles of trails extending from Waterloo Park to Town Lake. The limestone walls and walks of this downtown Austin trail are interesting and unusual. Built in 1976, the trail and park were an official American Bicentennial project. The creek corridor suffers from severe flooding and is the subject of current (2009) major improvement plans. Kate Alexander in the Austin AMERICAN-STATESMAN stated that "The plan has inspired colorful dreams of a pedestrian-friendly corridor featuring a hip version of San Antonio's River Walk that links three city parks. Improvements also are planned in Waterloo Park and at Town Lake, where an amphitheater and floating stage would add a new music venue to the downtown scene." For more on the trail and ongoing improvements, see the City of Austin Waller Creek page. See more photos of flood damage on Waller Creek Trail in 2007.
