Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society

The Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society unites recreation and park professionals and interested citizens to enhance their leadership in meeting recreational needs of all Pennsylvanians.

A variety of training, workshops, and conferences are offered each year on trails and greenways topics.

On May 5-6, 2005 the Pennsylvania Greenway and Trail Summit in Mechanicsburg, PA was presented by Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Association. This was the first annual statewide conference in Pennsylvania.

Workshops sponsored by PRPS have included:

  • Trail Building and Maintenance Techniques Using Lightly on the Land Principles
  • Trail Design, Construction, and Maintenance Workshop
  • Sustainable Trail Design and Construction-Trail Building 101
  • Natural Surface Trail Design: The Patterns That Work
  • Quantifying the Economic Benefits of Trails, Quantifying the Health Benefits of Trails, How to Conduct a Trail User Survey, and Methods for Conducting Trail User Counts

PRPS also provides many other resources in the outdoor recreation field on topics that include:

  • grant writing
  • funding opportunities
  • scholarships
  • publications
  • legislation
