The Tahoe Rim Trail NRT designation includes 96 miles of the 165-mile trail which runs along the ridges and mountain tops that encircle Lake Tahoe. The trail winds through two states (California and Nevada), six counties, three national forests, and state park land. The Tahoe Rim Trail is divided into eight segments anchored by easily accessible trailheads.

The photo at right shows Phil Brisack, Martin Hlavaty, and Malcolm Beggs working on the bottom wall of a switchback on National Trails Day 2001.

Grimes Point Trail runs through Grimes Point Archaeological Site and provides access to petroglyphs. See other NRTs managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

We frequently add NRT information, photos and maps to these pages. Send suggestions and information requests to American Trails. Research additional NRTs in the NRT database. Update trail/contact information by sending us a completed update form (PDF format). You may also e-mail this information.
