Help Keep American Trails Successful in 2011 ~ Providing the Great Information and Support You and the Trails World Need!
Dear Fellow Lovers of Trails and Greenways,
At this time of holiday cheer, the staff and Board of American Trails want to extend our warmest greetings and our sincere thanks for all you do to make America's trails the gems we all appreciate and benefit from daily. You, as vital members of the trails community, are the ones who make it happen and we honor you. We feel certain that you recognize with us that there has never been a greater need for trails, greenways, and open space—in every community and in our wild and beautiful places!
However, we face tight fiscal and economic times and some of our country’s decision makers still see these investments as trivial. They don’t recognize the multi-fold benefits and the capacity of these amenities to transform lives and revitalize communities. Ironically perhaps, we must add that, with reductions in public funding, America’s trails have never needed more support!
For over 20 years, American Trails has been the collective voice for a diverse coalition of enthusiasts, professionals, land managers, conservationists, and friends of the outdoors and livable cities. Last month, we held our 20th National Trails Symposium in the beautiful outdoor community of Chattanooga, TN. We brought together over 600 people from across the country to share success stories, learn cutting-edge skills for building sustainable trails, and strategize for successful advocacy efforts.
Coordinating the Symposium is just one of the many ways American Trails brings the trails community together, both for better trails and for a better world. With your support, American Trails will continue to keep you informed on both trail know-how and issues critical to the future of trails. We will advocate on your behalf and help make your voice heard.
American Trails' vital continued advocacy for local, state, and federal investment (including programs like Transportation Enhancements, Recreational Trails Program, and Safe Routes to School) have been catalytic in building this vital infrastructure. Even in tough fiscal times voters across the nation have been supporting trails, greenways, and open space initiatives because they see the investment value. American Trails helps keep this vital movement alive and growing, and we need your help to continue this critical advocacy!
With your generous contribution, we can increase the capacity of our organization to redouble our efforts to educate decision makers, protect and grow funding for trails, keep more trails open and well-maintained, and promote the health and well-being of Americans of all ages and abilities.
We know you are asked to support many worthwhile causes, but we know this cause is important to you, so we hope you will make a special year-end, tax-deductible gift to American Trails today! Please consider a gift of $25, $50, $100, or more.
On behalf of the Board and staff of American Trails, I wish you and your family a healthy, prosperous, and adventurous New Year.
Thank you for supporting American Trails and America's trails!
Robert Searns, Chairman of the Board
