American Trails Mobile Workshops

Learning sessions on the trail will highlight pathways and bikeways of the Portland region. These field sessions focus on specific activities, while sharing lessons learned from trail parterships, construction, maintenance, and management. You'll take part in your choice of activities, including hiking, walking, bicycling on paved trails, mountain biking, canoe paddling, and OHV riding. All trips are guided by local trail managers and advocates.

PTBA Sustainable Trails Workshops

The Professional Trailbuilders Association (PTBA) in partnership with American Trails is sponsoring the PTBA Sustainable Trails Workshop Series. This series of hands-on workshops will focus on the important skills and techniques involved in sustainable design, planning, construction, and maintenance of trails for all types of users in all types of environments.

American Trails Featured Workshops

The American Trails Featured Workshops provide the occasion for you to be an active part of in-depth discussions and activities on different trail topics.

Concurrent Sessions

Concurrent Sessions are 1.25 hour informational talks that can be given by one presenter or a panel. These workshops cover dozens of topics on every aspect of trail planning, funding, management, and promotion. All types of trails are included in these sessions, from backcountry routes to urban greenways, and trails on snow and water, as well as land.

Core Tracks

Core Tracks are designed to allow presenters to explore subjects in greater depth than is possible in a 1.25-hour Concurrent Session. Each Core Track module is a minimum of 3 hours (including breaks), but Core Track offerings can be extended to 6 hours (including breaks). This will allow ample time for in-depth presentations, discussions, examples, practice, and fieldwork (if applicable).

Poster Presentations

Posters will be displayed in a common area in the Exhibit Hall throughout the Symposium. Individuals displaying posters will also have an opportunity to share their "story" and to meet with interested attendees at designated times during the Symposium.

Trail Talks

(a.k.a. Coffee and Pastries with an Expert)
Presenters with a special interest in a trail-related topic will lead “Trail Talk” sessions and facilitate an informal discussion and exchange of ideas. Attendees can also enjoy coffee and pastries during these informal early morning networking sessions.
