Volunteers on the trail

The Lewis-Clark All Terrain Vehicle Club conducts basic trail maintenance on 13.6 miles of the Musselshell trail system on the Clearwater National Forest. The maintenance includes clearing out downed trees and debris, digging out clogged ditches, drainage and culverts, brushing out the trail to accommodate motorized trail enthusiasts as well as cross-country skiers, and other basic upkeep.

The Lewis-Clark ATV club utilizes a small annual RTP grant ($476) to perform this work. The club has been using RTP funding to maintain this trail since 2006.

The Lewis-Clark ATV Club has about 200 members and works closely with local and state authorities to keep the trails and forest open for all to use.

The Club helps maintain OHV trails with the U.S. Forest Service, Idaho Department of Lands, BLM, Idaho Fish & Game and Washington Fish & Wildlife. Lewis-Clark ATV club promotes fun OHV use while encouraging safe, responsible and respectful use of our public lands— and very careful use of important RTP resources.

A big job: keeping trails open after winter storms

The Musselshell Off-Highway Vehicle Area is located approximately 12 miles south of Pierce and 12 miles east of Weippe, Idaho. There are two main trailheads, both adjacent to Road 100. The Musselshell OHV Area consists of more than 13 miles of designated OHV routes suitable for both motorcycles and ATV's. The designated routes are wide and have gentle grades. It's an excellent place for inexperienced riders or a family outing.
