The Green Mountain & Finger Lakes NF's is currently advertising three Recreation and Trails Technicians (GS-0462-4/5). The duty stations are in Rochester and Manchester, Vermont. Recreation on the Green Mountain and Finger Lakes National Forests is an exciting and complex mix of seasonal and year-round uses.

These positions are responsible for integrated day-to-day field management of recreation, trail and wilderness resources. Successful applicants will be excellent communicators, safety conscious, and willing to work with a wide variety of internal and external partners and public in support of implementing an integrated recreation, trails and wilderness program of work.

Core Duties: The successful applicant will be able to perform a wide variety of recreation, trails and wilderness management tasks in a field setting during all seasons of the year. They will serve as points of contacts with the recreating public and partners in support of maintenance activities. S/he will work closely with recreation staff across forest as well as with key stakeholder groups, partners, and sister-agencies.

• Field operations & maintenance of recreation sites and trails to management standards.
• Field activities in support of the 10 Year Wilderness Stewardship
• Assist in maintaining heritage and visual resources to standard
• Field inspections of recreation special uses and service contracts to ensure compliance and management to standard
• Forest Protection Officer – resource and visitor protection
• Partnership liaisons – working and coordinating field activities with partners ensuring safe and productive work standards
• Visitor education and information – primary field contacts in uniform
• Collections officer – collect recreation fee money to standard
• Assisting with routine district operations and facility maintenance
