Hosted by AmericanTrails. org 2 year Crew Leader Position - Great Smoky Mountains National Park Position posted on USAJOBS.gov. Announcement # 241069-GRSM09DE38. Starting Pay $17.36 an hour. The incumbent will serve as a working leader (crew size of 3 or more WG-3's and WG-5's) in the maintenance and repair of trails. Perform rehabilitation an maintenance of the parks trail system and cemeteries/cemetery access trails in accordance with established trail/cemetery standards. Repair trail tread, install and clean water bars and brush/mow trails. Construct rock and log retaining walls utilizing on-site natural materials. Replace and repair foot bridges, trail shelters, and signs. Requires strenuous physical effort on a daily basis. Incumbent will often be required to pack tools, supplies, signs and personal gear in his/her own backpack and hike into the back country for up to 16 miles. Work requires the ability to walk uphill in rugged mountainous terrain at a rate of at least 3 miles per hour.
