Position may become Full-time, year-round if anticipated funding is procured. Location: Colorado Springs, CO Salary: Will start up to $24,000/yr as job is presently construed. With full time year round funding pay is expected to be $30,0000 to $35,000 DOE. The Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) is a non-profit organization focusing on environmental service and education. Founded in 1989, RMFI has been working to address critical land preservation and restoration issues at key natural areas in the Southern Rocky Mountain Region. RMFI's projects include trail construction and repair, restoration of visitor-created "social" trails, erosion control, and non-native plant control. Our focus on environmental education, integrated into every service project, sets RMFI apart from other volunteer organizations. RMFI relies almost fully on volunteers and has mobilized thousands of volunteers to complete our preservation and restoration projects. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Program Manager will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of project implementation in the field and logistics for each program RMFI is currently conducting. These programs include, but are not limited to, Earth Corps, South Colony Lakes Basin, Garden of the Gods, and Pikes Peak. The Program Manager will provide assistance with the development of on-the-ground project objectives and the implementation of monitoring plans to quantify project objectives. RESPONSIBILITIES: -Coordinate field activities with staff and volunteers to ensure project objectives are met in a safe and productive manner. - Lead staff person in field, will oversee 1-3 field staff personnel - Ensure projects are adequately staffed for anticipated number of volunteers and objectives to be met. - Plan and deliver to project site all appropriate tools and equipment - Oversee instruction on the proper use of tools and equipment - Ensure RMFI safety policy standards are always adhered to - Completely fill out daily work log to properly quantify and record project deliverables. - Oversee management of the RMFI warehouse. - Ensure tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for - Keep inventory of tools and equipment up to date and properly track tools and equipment needing repair or replacement. - Ensure food supplies are adequately stored and dispose of expired food. - Assist in training new field staff and updating current staff on the latest trail/restoration techniques. - Attend training workshops when applicable - Assist in promoting and conducting outreach for RMFI programs. - Represent RMFI during inspections and reviews by agency personnel and serve as a liaison between RMFI and agency personnel if problems/issues arise. - Other tasks as assigned. RMFI is a small nonprofit wherein all members of staff contribute to the administrative functioning of RMFI. DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: -Self-starter. Can demonstrate an ability to take the initiative, set goals, and achieve them. -Undergraduate degree or higher in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geography, or related field. -Strong conservation ethic and belief in RMFI's mission. Familiarity with our core project areas is helpful. -Ability to present your ideas clearly and effectively through oral and written communication. -Experience in trail building and restoration techniques. -Ability to respectfully work with a variety of volunteers and students of varying ages and abilities to effectively accomplish project goals. -Ability to work safely in sometimes stressful conditions. Extended stays in the field of up to 30-days is required. Must have Wilderness First Aid certification. WORK SCHEDULE: This is a part-time (20 hrs) position in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In order to manage RMFI's warehouse and program activities effectively, travel, field work, and evening and weekend work is required. Must have a valid drivers license.
