Allegheny County, PA, seeks Recreation Rangers

July 9, 2007

Allegheny County, PA, has posted a Vacancy Announcement for two Supervisory Recreation Specialist positions to serve as Assistant Rangers for Recreation. These will be advertised as interdisciplinary GS-0401-11 positions. Duty location will be either Marienville Ranger District, Marienville, PA or Bradford Ranger District, Bradford, PA. For more information and a copy of the vacancy announcement: contact these individuals:

Tony Scardina (814) 362-4613 x123, Bradford District Ranger,

Rob Fallon (814) 927-6628 x134, Marienville District Ranger,

About the Position

Dependent on budget, the Allegheny National Forest may fill two positions. If one position is filled, it will serve as a zone position coordinating recreation operations on the two Ranger Districts. The Bradford Ranger District will serve as the official duty station for the zone position. However, the position will report to both District Rangers. If both positions are filled, one will serve as recreation operations coordinator for the Marienville District, with duty station in Marienville; and one will serve as recreation operations coordinator for the Bradford District, with duty station in Bradford.

These positions will serve as Assistant Rangers for the respective Districts. The Bradford District is home to the Allegheny Reservoir, with an emphasis on developed recreation and water-based activities, and several of the special areas of the Allegheny National Forest, including the Hickory Creek Wilderness, Hearts Content and Tionesta National Scenic Areas, and the Allegheny National Recreation Areas. The Marienville Ranger District is home to the Clarion Wild and Scenic River, with an emphasis on dispersed recreation. Both Districts feature ATV and snowmobile trails, segments of the North Country National Scenic Trail, and the Allegheny Wild and Scenic River.
