Pike 2 Bike project in PA seeks consultant for economic analysis

April 30, 2013

From: Donald Schwartz, Bedford County Planning Commission
Subject: Pike 2 Bike Master Plan Update

I am working on an amazing trail project here in Bedford County, PA. The Pike 2 Bike includes 8.5 miles of abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike with two tunnels (1.3 miles and 0.7 miles long). I believe that P2B is unique in the U.S. as an abandoned superhighway with tunnels large enough to handle two lanes of traffic. A feasibility study was conducted in 2006 that investigated construction costs, ownership and management models, etc., but did not include an economic analysis of the potential impact of the project if constructed. I have obtained local funding to prepare the economic analysis and wish to hire a consultant for this task. I am reaching out to all potential partners who could assist or provide the names of consultants/individuals, etc. who may be interested in this work. Please forward this message to any members of your organization from central PA – or others – as appropriate. This trail would be amazing if it can be constructed. Thanks for your help and please contact me with any questions.
