Missouri Trail Summit Heads to Springfield

May 13, 2009

Celebrating its’ sixth year with the Missouri Parks & Recreation Association the Missouri trail Summit is headed to Springfield October 7-9, 2009. With the statewide Summit Planning committee hitting it hard to offer you some great sessions, a local Springfield committee is also working to give you the best possible opportunity to see, feel, and experience area trails. So, plan to bring your tails to the trails and see Springfield like never before.

In addition to the classroom sessions the planning committee is working to offer you an on-site or two that will get you up close and personal with trail projects. We want you to learn firsthand successes and challenges with local trail projects. The planning committee is so eager to make sure that you get to see related trail features which will benefit and interest your needs, that submissions for the Magical Mystery on-site Tour are currently being accepted. If you have a specific trail challenge, question, or problem which you would like to see an answer for, or if you need to view a specific trail feature, design, surface or other trail element send your need to Ozark Greenways Inc. (terry@ozarkgreenways.org). Ozark Greenways will take all requests and develop a plan for you to see whatever you need, either as part of planned on site or a custom on site with other trail managers.

We know your budgets might be thin, but don’t let that stop you. We are working to have all sessions receive CEU’s and this will be a great opportunity to learn, all that is possible with limited travel dollars and not leaving the state.
Want to help-? We are seeking items for the social and silent auction as well as possible underwriters and sponsors. If you know a company or organization that might benefit from making contacts at the Trail Summit please put them in contact with Gary Gates at the MPRA office. A variety of sponsorship levels exist.

This year’s Trail Summit will also mark a change in Summit scheduling. To better allow opportunities for Missouri trail, park and open space planners to attend the National Trail Symposium offered by American trail every other year the MTS will skip 2010, and return in 2011. So if you want trail information and need that annual trail fix to discuss your projects with other trail and park managers don’t miss us this October, as all trails lead to Springfield Missouri.
