Position Description
The Maine Conservation Corps, an AmeriCorps program, is dedicated to accomplishing outdoor recreation and conservation projects for the public, promoting and managing volunteer opportunities, providing conservation education, building self-esteem and leadership, strengthening the future employability of members, while raising the aspirations of members and volunteers.

The Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) is accepting applications for a Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator.  This position is based in the MCC’s office in Augusta, ME. MCC’s Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for increasing awareness of the Maine Conservation Corps throughout Maine. This involves using several platforms, including career and volunteer fairs, Facebook, newspapers, promotional posters, and others. The position also involves recruiting, coordinating, and tracking large numbers of volunteers paired with MCC’s AmeriCorps members throughout the state. This position is an AmeriCorps Grant Staff position, not an AmeriCorps member position, therefore there is no Education Award.

General Responsibilities:
Outreach - Make connections with individuals and volunteers in the community to increase awareness of and participation with MCC
Train and assist volunteers and AmeriCorps members
Assist AmeriCorps members and staff with program events as needed
Document Volunteer involvement with MCC

Program-specific duties:
Attend outreach events and give presentations for promoting the MCC
Lead MCC recruitment efforts through career fairs, school, and community presentations
Serve as the media contact for the MCC
Expand MCC branding efforts through comparison shopping
Create and Coordinate Volunteer Opportunities in collaboration with Community Partners and
AmeriCorps members
Write press releases, newsletters, written communications and video promotional materials
Manage MCC Volunteer Calendar and VolunteerMaine postings

Training and Responsibilities:
Participate in AmeriCorps training and events as required and requested by the Maine Commission for Community Service and the MCC
Conduct volunteer management trainings for MCC members
Participate in and record community service activities for Social Media promotion
Work with Program Coordinators to create field visit schedule and plan promotional volunteer events for individuals and companies
Participate in orientation training

Work schedule: 40+ hour work week, typically Monday-Friday, with some weekends and overnights.

Skill requirements: Essential functions include:
Experience with recruiting, training and managing volunteers.
Excellent verbal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking.
Strong organizational skills.
Experience with outreach events.
Ability to use social media to fulfill job expectations
Demonstrated written communication skills (e.g. press releases and newsletters).
Proficient computer skills, including video editing and Microsoft Office programs.
Passion for community service and the environment.

Benefits:
The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator is a non-AmeriCorps MCC staff person who will receive a salary of $440.00 per week for 35 weeks. Other benefits include health insurance, a wide range of training and networking opportunities, and a Maine State Park Pass.
