2017 Caretakers & Ridgerunners on the Appalachian Trail in Maine

At Saddleback and Bigelow Mountains and Gulf Hagas Caretaker / Ridgerunner

Job Description: Two Caretakers and one Ridgerunner will greet, register and teach Leave No Trace information to hikers with a focus on youth groups. The Caretakers will manage the Piazza Rock and Horns Pond campsites and perform some maintenance. All positions will ridge run – patrol north and south of the campsites on overnight trips.

Requirements: significant long distance hiking experience on the Appalachian Trail; Leave No Trace knowledge, skills and ethics; experience working with the public; good physical condition – able to hike with a backpack; desire and comfort with primitive, solitary, outdoor living/working conditions; and practical arrangements for transportation and local days-off housing.

Schedule: May to October. All positions work weekends and holidays, 40 hrs/wk.

Pay: ranges from $10-$13.25/hour depending upon experience.
